Sunset capture of the ruins of Saltair along the southern shore of the Great Salt Lake near Salt Lake City, Utah. Although its beauty is apparent, one must be careful in this area --- it is covered with shattered glass and rusty nails! I nearly impaled my face when leaning down near the beams!
The first Saltair resort was completed in 1893, and was designed by a well-known Utah architect, Richard K.A. Kletting, and rested on over 2,000 posts and pilings. Several fires over the years took their toll on the landmark. Although there is a primary "pavilion" that stands today (built in 1981), it was built long after the original site [source: wikipedia].
