Rajput Painting - Ragamala - Traditional Indian Painting depicting Celebration - Rajasthani Art
This is a painting inspired by the traditional Indian Rajput paintings and Ragamala paintings. The Rajput paintings and miniatures evolved and flourished in the royal courts of Rajputana in the present day Rajasthan, in the North-western part of India. These illustrative paintings usually depict a number of themes ranging from episodes from the Indian epics, Ramayana and Mahabharata to the lives and accomplishments of the reigning kings or just glimpses from everyday life, in the kingdom. Celebration is one of the most heavily depicted themes in these paintings and is the subject of this one here. The characters are all reveling in the festive joy and music and dance. A richly decorated parade of the royal Indian elephants and horses can also be seen in the painting. The backdrop is a representation of a beautiful palace with intricately decorated windows and balconies. The warm color tone adds to the richness, brilliance and expressiveness of the artwork.
